Description |
An early 19th Century New York mahogany, ebonized wood and rosewood line-inlaid table-shaped square piano made by Charles P. Sakmeister, for Bromberg & Co., New York,. It has a cross-banded edge, lift-top, with sheet music support, over 74 ivory and ebony keys, with fret-carved brass sound transoms, applied foliate-pressed brass molding trim, supported on massive ring-turned and leaf-carved, fluted, tapered legs, with ring-turned, tapered castored feet, below, a lyre-shaped pedal support below. Gilt-stenciled label: Made by / Charles P. Sakmeister / for / S. Bromberg & Co. / No. 80 Broadway / New York. The piano was owned by Mrs. Benjamin Townsend Underhill. |
