Transcription: Mr. Samuel Townsend,New York, May 26th, 1779 Dear Sir, I have received yours of the 23d Inst. by Joseph Latting, and observe the contents. – I now send you by Zebn. Townsend, 4 L Yds Fustian Dimothy, 10 L Yds Persian & 2 Yds of Ribbon, as p enclosed account. – Goods are now very high, but expect they will soon be lower, as large quantitys are daily expected. – you may depend that I shall be able to find them as low as any person. - The Queen's Rangers are now beyond King's Bridge. When I see any of the officers will make inquiry for Liss - Tho' I think there is no probability of your getting her again - believe you may reckon her amongst your other dead losses.- I am surprised that Col. Simcoe would permit her to go - he certainly must have known it when they left Oyster Bay. – I am Dear Sir, Your dutiful Son Robert Townsend |
